TRANSPARENCY TUTORIALS: Synchronising Printful and Etsy to Create an Online Business
Boost your ECommerce Success with a Step-By-Step Guide for Beginners.
Hello there!
If you're thinking of starting an online business, or if you're already running one and want to expand, you might have stumbled upon two platforms that are crucial for many online entrepreneurs: Printful and Etsy.
Today, we're diving deep into what these platforms are, why you might want to use them, and how to synchronise them effectively. Let's embark on this digital exploration together.
Don't worry if you haven't heard of them before; we'll break everything down, and by the end of this article, you'll know exactly what they are and how to integrate them.
What Are Printful and Etsy?
Printful: Think of Printful as your very own printing factory that's available on-demand. It's a print-on-demand service which means that they print your designs onto various products like t-shirts, mugs, and phone cases, only after you've made a sale. You provide the creative spark, and they do all the heavy lifting—printing, packing, and shipping the products directly to your customers' doorstep.
Etsy: On the other hand, Etsy is an online marketplace, a hub of creativity where people from all over the world sell unique, bespoke goods. It's renowned for its vast array of handmade, vintage, and one-of-a-kind products. If creativity is second nature for you, Etsy is a fantastic platform to set up your shop and connect with customers who value original, imaginative products.

Synchronizing Printful with Etsy allows you to create and sell custom-designed products on Etsy, but without worrying about printing, packing, or shipping. Printful handles all of that for you.
Leveraging the power of Printful and Etsy together allows you to showcase and sell your custom-designed products on Etsy, without the logistical hassle. Printful acts as your invisible partner, leaving you with more time to focus on what you do best—creating unique designs and connecting with your customers!
Now, let's delve into the nitty-gritty of actually synchronising these two platforms together.
How to Synchronise Printful and Etsy: A Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Setting Up Your Etsy Shop
If you don't already have an Etsy shop, don’t worry! The setup process is pretty straightforward:
Go to Etsy.com/sell
Click on "Get Started”.
Follow the prompts to create your account. You'll need to provide some basic details and preferences for your shop, such as your shop name, items you plan to sell, how you plan to receive payments, and how you'll pay your Etsy bills.
After that, you'll be able to start listing your products.
Please note: Etsy does have a small fee for listing products, so be sure to factor this into your pricing structure.
Step 2: Create a Printful Account
To set up a Printful account:
Visit Printful.com.
Click on "Sign Up"
You'll be prompted to enter your email address and create a password. Fill in your details to create your account.
Step 3: Design Your Products on Printful
Next, it's time to let your creativity shine. Within Printful, this is how you can design your products:
Inside Printful, on the right hand side, select "Product Templates." Then click “Create Your First Product Template.”
Choose the type of item you want to design, such as a t-shirt or mug. Printful offers a wide array of products, from apparel and home goods to accessories and more.
Upload your design and adjust as needed. The Printful design tool lets you scale, rotate, and position your design exactly how you want it.
Save the product when you're happy with your design. Printful will store this in your product library for you to access and sync later.
HYPERFIX TIP: If you’re not particularly artistic or you are struggling with design inspiration - then I suggest visiting Canva. It's a no-nonsense design tool that'll make everything you create look pro. No art school degree needed. Trust me, it's a game-changer.
Step 4: Integrate Printful with Etsy
To integrate Printful with Etsy:
In your Printful dashboard, go to "Stores" and select "Choose Platform."
Find Etsy on the list and click on it.
Click "Connect" and you'll be redirected to Etsy where you'll need to allow Printful to access your Etsy shop. Simply follow the prompts to connect your Etsy shop with Printful.
Step 5: Sync Your Products
After successfully connecting Printful and Etsy, it's time to sync the products you've designed in Printful with your Etsy shop:
In Printful, go to "Stores," select your Etsy shop.
Click on "Add product" and choose the designs you want to sync with Etsy.
Follow the prompts to set pricing and other details. Remember, you can always adjust these later if needed.
It's important to know that each time you sync a new product to your Etsy shop via Printful, you'll be charged Etsy's standard listing fee, so don't forget to factor this cost into your pricing.
Some Other Things to Keep in Mind:
📸1. Product Mockups:
Printful provides mock-up images of your products (product mockups). You can use these on your Etsy product pages to give potential customers a clear view of what they're buying.
📦2. Shipping:
Printful takes care of shipping for you! With facilities in North America and Europe, they can send your products directly to customers anywhere in the world. This streamlines the process and saves you time.
🎨3. Custom Branding:
Want to make your products feel more like your own? Printful offers custom branding options, including packing slips and stickers. It's a great way to add a personal touch.
💰4. Pricing:
Setting your retail prices is an essential step when syncing your products. Think about all the costs involved, such as Printful's product and shipping costs and Etsy's listing and transaction fees. Also, consider the profit you want to make. Finding the right price might take a little thought, but it's all part of making your shop a success.
🗝️5. Keywords in Listings:
Using the right words in your titles and descriptions can make it easier for people to find your products. Imagine what customers might search for, and use those terms. It's like having a friendly sign pointing the way to your shop.
⭐️6. Quality and Consistency:
Keep your shop looking professional by maintaining consistent quality across your products and branding. This includes using clear product images and keeping the colours, logo, and style the same on both sites.
💳7. Start-Up Costs:
Before diving in, it's worth considering the start-up costs. Printful doesn't have a monthly fee, but they charge for the products you sell. Etsy has a small listing fee and takes a percentage of each sale. If you plan to use any of Printful's custom branding options, factor those costs in as well. It's important to weigh these costs against your potential profits to ensure your business will be financially viable. Remember, investing in your business is normal, and understanding these costs upfront can help you set realistic goals and strategies for success.
While it may feel a bit daunting at first, each step is manageable and essential to creating a successful and cohesive shop, I certainly would have looked at all of this two years ago and thought “whoah, I couldn’t possibly get my head around all of that…”
But remember, every successful shop owner was once a beginner. You don't have to know everything all at once. Take your time, have fun with it, and you'll learn as you go.
In Conclusion
Navigating the digital world can be a complex journey, but with the right tools and understanding, anyone can master it. By breaking down the integration of Printful and Etsy into manageable steps, I aim to provide a helpful roadmap for your online business success.
Remember, the world of online entrepreneurship is vast and filled with opportunity. Don't be afraid to explore, experiment, and innovate. Your dreams are within reach, and Printful and Etsy are incredible allies on this exciting path.

🗣️ Quote of the week:
"Simple can be harder than complex; you have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it's worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains." - Steve Jobs
📚 Book of the week:
“Anything You Want,” has the kind of real—raw advice and stories that make you rethink entrepreneurship. Honestly, it feels like having a deep chat with a mentor. It’s known for its unique and insightful take on entrepreneurship, based on the authors own experiences. This book is generally well-reviewed and appreciated for its casual, non-traditional approach to discussing business and personal growth. I think you'd find it valuable; it really speaks to the heart.
💻 Online tool of the week:
With no surprise this weeks online tool i’m sharing is Etsy! I've started selling on Etsy and it's been a surprising journey. It's such a vibrant and supportive community of creators, where the passion truly shines through. The platform is pretty user-friendly and there are countless resources to help you succeed. More than that, it's heartening and really rewarding to see my creations find new homes across the globe - that part will never get old!
❤️🩹 Stresses & lesson learned this week:
Living with ADHD, I've often battled with motivation and discipline, leading to stress and self-criticism. But I've learned that being hard on myself doesn't help; it's counterproductive. Instead, I try to embrace my unique way of processing the world, understanding that my path to motivation and discipline is different and that's okay. Now, I try to change my on perspective on how I see my ADHD, not as a barrier but as a distinctive perspective that I can use to my advantage. This realisation has been a gentle reminder to be more empathetic towards myself.
🌀 ADHD product of the week:
I stumbled across it the other day, and it's basically this little device you can attach to your keys, backpack, or anything you might misplace. You clip it onto things you often to loose - your keys, backpack, you name it. If you can't find your stuff, open up their free app, and it can ring the Tile if it's nearby or show you the last place it was if it's not. Where has this been all my life!? Lost your phone? Just double-tap the Tile and your phone rings, even on silent. It's got a water-resistant shell and a battery life of 3 years. Honestly, if you are an ADHDer like me, it could be a real lifesaver.
🛋️ Home Office improvement of the week:
I just found something that looks like magic to me. It's a reusable digital notebook with 48 pages that you can wipe clean with a fibre cloth. You can actually search your handwritten notes through the app, email them, and even upload them to Google Docs or Evernote. Plus, it feels just like writing on paper & also comes with a special erasable pen and a wipe. It’s perfect for jotting down quick notes to save for later without wasting paper, or if you’re like me and have tons of notes that you can never find when you need them. Seems like a nifty tool for anyone who loves taking notes without creating more paper waste!
✨ Dopamine Finder of the week:
Okay, this rec is a bit silly.. but I couldn’t resist including it purely for the satisfaction factor! It’s one of those press cutting fruit core slicers - No more awkward knife slips or uneven pieces! I think it would be a great addition to your kitchen gadgets, especially if you're into making salads, snacks, or anything that requires section slicing, (and last but not least if you’re into that dopamine hit during a mundane task!) Just a simple press, and you get perfectly even fruit pieces.
🏆 Goal for next week:
My goal for next week is to continue nurturing my unique approach to motivation and discipline. I'll focus on setting realistic, achievable tasks and celebrate the small victories along the way. By recognizing the progress I make, rather than dwelling on perceived shortcomings, I hope to foster a positive mindset that encourages growth and self-compassion. Embracing myself wholeheartedly, ADHD is, and will always be with me on my journey.
